Baby its cold outside....and dry....and blowing....
And it's wreaking havoc on our skin. Living in Northern MN we struggled to keep our humidity levels above 5-10% in the winter. And my hair and skin showed. If I left the house without covering my hands in mittens, my skin would be dry and wrinkly within seconds. Since I typically forgot things like mittens, I always kept a bottle of lotion in my car just for these moments. Well... in 40 below weather, that lotion was more like a lotion-cicle. I would throw it on the heater, but usually it wouldn't be thawed by the time I got to where I was going. I got sick of frozen lotion and needed a better solution.
Enter solid lotion bars!!! These have been life-savers for keeping my hands looking younger than a centenarian during the winter. Plus they are so simple to just whip up a batch. And you're friends will love you for sharing a bar with them as well.
I always keep one in the car now. And they offer a great layer of protection that traps moisture in your skin. So if you find yourself, smartly, washing your hands over and over during cold/flu season your skin won't dry out and crack.
Ingredients:
2/3 cup organic beeswax
1 cup solid cocounut oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
15-20 drops of doTerra Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
*I like lavender for calming. Or Balance and Serenity to help calm anxious feelings. Citrus oils help uplift moods in the cold, dark winter. Choose what you like to help you choose your mood. #moodsbydoterra
Prepare:
Measure all ingredients (except for vitamin E and essential oils) into a large glass measuring cup
Place measuring cup in a saucepan with 1-2" of boiling water in the bottom of the saucepan.
Stir ingredients in the measuring cup until all are melted and combined.
Once melted, remove from heat.
Add your doTerra oils, vitamin E oil, and stir.
Pour into your favorite molds.
Let mixture harden for 2-3 hours, or 30 min in the freezer (unless you find yourself in Northern MN in the winter. Then just set them outside. They'll be frozen in no time :) :) )
