Organic Lip Balm

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

We went shopping last weekend and it seemed every booth had their own version of lip balm. I would consider myself a lip balm connoisseur. I have tried them all! But I am super picky on what I like. It has to be smooth, moisturizing, and have just the right amount of gloss. Oh and it better leave my lips silky soft!

I have spent years perfecting this recipe. Every time I share it, folks love it! So here it is:

Ingredients:

5.5 tsp Safflower Oil

2 tsp Bees Wax Pastilles (Someday I hope to source my own beeswax from my own bees. Ahh Dreams :) )

1/2 Heaping tsp Solid Coconut Oil

3/4 tsp Vitamin E Oil

12 drops CPTG* essential oil

Lip Balm Tubes (I just learned about the cardboard kind. I am switching from the plastic kind pronto!)

*A word about the quality of essential oils here. When you put them on your skin, their constituents enter your bloodstream and then the rest of your body as well. Plus, since this is a lip balm, your bound to ingest some of it no matter what. So I would make sure to use an oil that you, yourself can verify the purity. Only Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils offer this via the www.sourcetoyou.com website. Stepping off my soap box now. ;)

Assemble:

Place a glass measuring cup and water in the bottom pan of a double boiler. Place the pan on a stove burner on medium heat.

Add Safflower oil, beeswax, and coconut oil to a glass measuring cup and melt. Stirring until well combined.

Once everything is melted, remove the measuring cup from the pan. Add the Vitamin E oil and your chosen essential oils. (I love any of the citrus oils, Lemon, Wild Orange, Grapefruit. People also love Spearmint, or Peppermint. Pick your fancy!)

While it is still in liquid form, pour mixture into prepared lip balm tubes. If you don't have a steady hand, a pipette works great too!

Let me know once you've tried this recipe! What flavors called out to you?
