How to Save Money while Eating Well

Updated: Jul 29, 2023

With food prices the way they are these days, buying all organic can easily be out of reach. Don't worry, I've got you covered.

Have you heard of the Environmental Working Group? They do so much research on products and foods with the goal of reducing people's exposure to toxic chemicals.

We all can use help in this area. Our poor livers were not designed to filter out the sheer volume of toxins we are exposed to in our day to day lives. Any support we can give is well appreciated.

Years ago they started this campaign to educate moms like us on what we should focus our money on when buying organic. And what may be ok if we buy at cheaper conventional prices.

Here they have their Dirty Dozen (TM). These foods have the most pesticide residue when raised conventionally, so they should be purchased organic when possible. (Note: Strawberries have been the number one most contaminated with pesticide residue since I started paying attention to this list over a decade ago. This is one fruit that I always buy organic.)

So that leaves the question, are there any conventional options that can help promote health?

Yes!

Here is their Clean 15 (TM). Clean 15 foods have little pesticide residue when raised conventionally and are safe to consume. So rest easy knowing that buying these conventionally will still be a great option for your family!

Of course, I always love a local option. Or an option I grow myself. But as we find ourselves in an investment property for now, growing food just isn't in the cards for us this year.

We have small deck container gardens, but looking forward to seeing what the agricultural center of Alaska has to offer come this fall.
